Ventolin Inhaler

Description

Ventolin is a prescribed medication used to relieve asthma symptoms in both adults and children. It is also used to manage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in adults. Ventolin should be taken at the onset of symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, or shortness of breath. Each puff delivers 100 micrograms of salbutamol, with two puffs commonly recommended for symptom relief. It begins working within minutes and provides relief for approximately four to six hours. Ventolin is a type of bronchodilator, meaning it helps open up the airways. The active ingredient, salbutamol, works by relaxing the muscles around the air passages, making them wider and easing breathing. This helps reduce wheezing and shortness of breath.

Because it acts quickly, Ventolin is intended for use during flare-ups of symptoms. In most cases, a “preventer” inhaler is also needed alongside Ventolin to help reduce the risk of future flare-ups.
